Blephex Lid cleaning

A procedure to alleviate the signs associated with Blepharitis

How this treatment works:

When we develop dry eye, changes begin to occur in and around our lids in the form of small and abnormal blood vessels – a term referred to as “telangiectasias”. This is a marker of inflammation which affects the normal functioning of the oily glands.

Intense Pulsed Light, the most modern development in dry eye management, uses a precise and targeted pulse of light at a specific wavelength and strength to address the inflammation. This swift and painless procedure is applied to the skin around the eyes whereby the pulsed light is absorbed by the protein of abnormal vessels supressing and vitally interrupting the cycle of inflammation.

Why we use the Lumenis M22

Several studies have demonstrated its efficacy and this particular machine – the M22 Lumenis is CE marked and the only one with worldwide FDA approval (2022).

Unlike other IPL treatment machines, the pulse of light delivered to the skin can be spilt into 3 pulses which is gentler to the skin reducing the chance of any adverse effects and enabling safe treatment close to the skin

IPL was first pioneered in 2001 by an American Ophthalmologist – Rolando Toyos!
